Whether you are looking to explore your faith or gain new perspective on the world the IM-IN trip is a great way to get involved. You always hear stories about different areas of the world and what it is like living there, but you never truly know until you experience it. It really is a shock to go from seeing what the rest of the world is going through and coming home to see how much we take for granted. For me, these trips were great not only for growing close with people in my community but getting a chance to help and serve others. I don’t know if I would’ve gone into the health industry if not for discovering my passion to serve people through these trips. In Haiti we would work in the community to build a house and relationships. It truly was amazing to come back each year and see the friends I had made in prior trips, and to see the finished houses that we started. These trips aren’t just about hard labor but forming a true connection with someone regardless of barriers like language. Though I never spoke the language, other than phrases like “how are you?”, “what is your name?” etc. We were still able to connect with one another through games and translators. These trips definitely helped shape me into the man I am today.
